Job Purpose / Main Functions:

The MHPSS Facilitator will lead group activities for children and caregivers, focusing on prevention, resilience, and protection. They will work with medium to high-risk children aged 5 to 10 and their caregivers to build life skills and provide essential psychosocial support.

Based in the Bekaa area of Lebanon, the facilitator will conduct targeted psychosocial activities that follow organizational guidelines. The goal is to help vulnerable children and their caregivers become more resilient.

These activities will promote well-being and develop coping skills to handle challenges. The MHPSS Facilitator’s work is vital for fostering long-term resilience for children and caregivers.

Aims of the position are to:

• Develop and implement age-appropriate psychosocial activities for children and caregivers as needed.

• Strengthen and improve the resilience and well-being of targeted at-risk groups.

• Ensure that all beneficiaries can participate in activities that are non-discriminatory and sensitive to age and gender.

• Provide parents and caregivers with regular updates on their child’s participation during sessions.

• Collaborate with project team members to develop intervention plans and conduct follow-ups.

• Ensure that children and caregivers feel safe, comfortable, and respected at all times.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Planning and Implementation of Activities

• Vulnerability Assessments and Selection: Identify at-risk children and caregivers through vulnerability assessments for program entry.

• Activity Facilitation Facilitate MHPSS sessions to engage children and caregivers in resilience-building and protective activities, such as workshops and art-based sessions.

• Support and Engagement Assist at-risk children and caregivers in accessing MHPSS initiatives, addressing their emotional and psychological needs.

• Collaboration Participate in joint activities related to other project components as needed.

• Monitoring and Reporting: Create monthly reports on PSS activities, sharing successes, challenges, and progress with the line manager, while maintaining project database systems.

• Activity Implementation Help ensure timely implementation of activities per the Plan of Action and project budget, adhering to child safeguarding policies.

• Community Engagement: Engage the community in child protection efforts and support the development of community-based protection committees.

• Outreach and Registration Map and assess children for MHPSS activities, and register them for appropriate support interventions.

• Session Planning: Organize and run safe, child-friendly activities, adapting sessions based on participant feedback.

• Behavior Management: Address challenging behaviors by identifying causes and applying effective communication strategies.

• Documentation and Feedback: Document feedback, provide monitoring reports to the technical officer, and update caregivers on children's progress.

• Advocacy: Identify and package PSS advocacy issues and support related campaigns.

• Logistics and Material Preparation: Ensure timely preparation and safe storage of materials for MHPSS activities.

• Referral and Support: Refer children needing specialized medical, psychological, or nutritional care to appropriate services.

• Capacity Building: Contribute to the development of new PSS methodologies and assist in training co-facilitators.

• Child Protection: Ensure the safety and well-being of children in activities, promoting their participation and safeguarding their rights.

Reporting

• Regularly submit field reports, protection monitoring reports, and project progress updates to your line manager.

• Assist in analyzing the collected data and reports, both quantitatively and qualitatively.

• Provide information about progress as needed.

• Report on and support the ongoing evaluation of the impact of activities on children and youth.

• Ensure accurate daily recording of data, including the number of children, youth, and adults participating, as well as the activities delivered.

• Submit official reports on time for any security and safety incidents.

Communication and Coordination

• Maintain close coordination and provide updates with other project staff.

• Contribute to fostering a positive atmosphere by engaging constructively with colleagues, children, youth, and caregivers.

• Communicate effectively with the technical team and managers, sharing ideas and new proposals based on daily observations in interactions with children.

• Participate in donor visits, ensuring proper preparation and implementation.

• Regularly communicate with stakeholders, partners, and municipalities through visits.

Organisational Policies:

• Adhere to and promote the Tdh Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP) and its principles of child protection, ensuring the policy is implemented effectively. Promptly notify the CSP Focal Point of any potential breaches of the policy.

• Be knowledgeable about and comply with all Tdh policies and procedures, including the Internal Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, and other relevant policies.

• Carry out any additional duties assigned by the line manager that align with the job responsibilities.

• Actively participate in weekly and monthly coordination meetings with line managers.

• Ensure that a Do No Harm analysis is conducted and uphold the principle of Do No Harm in all activities undertaken by the MHPSS Facilitator.

Other

• Support other teams and your line manager.

• Perform any additional duties requested by the line manager that are compatible with your role.

• The MHPSS Facilitator is expected to be available in emergencies to ensure the continuity of psychosocial support services for children and families in need. Due to the emergency context, flexibility in working hours and the location of work is required, as these may change based on the evolving situation and operational needs.

Job Requirements:

• Academic Background:

Degree in a Social science, humanities, psychology, or any relevant degree.

• Experience:

At least 1-3 years of experience working with children and their caregivers, preferably with medium to high-risk children, refugees, or vulnerable populations.

• Technical Competencies:

1. Strong understanding of child protection principles.

2. Ability to interact effectively with children and adults from diverse backgrounds.

3. Skills in quality monitoring and reporting.

4. Commitment to innovation and development.

5. Respect for institutional frameworks and guidelines.

6. Preference for individuals who have been trained in and implemented the PM+ and/or EASE curricula.
