Nutrition Officer

Terre des hommes - Lausanne is seeking a qualified Nutrition Officer based in Tyre or surroundings for one of its projects in the South.



Main Goals:


The main purpose of this role is to provide support to the nutrition team in the field to respond effectively to acute needs of crisis and/or conflict affected mother and children and most vulnerable populations or host communities as well as support the team in managing of their task in the field. The nutrition officer is in charge of managing the two nutrition community mobilizers and nutrition community volunteers.



Main responsibilities:

The Nutrition Officer will be responsible for the below listed tasks in the office and in the field:

 Support the nutrition community mobilizers in the implementation of nutrition activities in the South region according to the requirements of the donors, project proposals, and logical frameworks.

 Provide technical support and guidance to the nutrition team, in line with the nutrition sector standards.


 Cascade trainings and transfer technical tools and knowledge to nutrition and protection field staff engaged in the program.  


 Closely coordinate with the protection manager and the head of office, in order to ensure that nutrition activities are embedded within the protection program.


 Ensure that screening and referrals for acute malnutrition are conducted in line with the nutrition sector standards and are being effectively mainstreamed within the protection program activities.


 Monitor the screening activities for all children under five and PLWs who attend protection services and at community level.


 Develop and put in place all Infant &Young Child Feeding IYCF awareness tools and materials in line with the nutrition sector guidance and ensuring that nutrition team is well trained and prepared for the proper implementation of these tools.


 Support the field staff in the provision of SMAM services to children under 5 years old and Pregnant and lactating women in the field.


 Support and conduct when needed, Early childhood development counselling with of caregivers of children aged 0 - 59 months, keep close monitoring for cases showing under-development indicators.


 Coordinate with Tdh staff and partners in the timely reporting on the following: number of beneficiaries referred to acute malnutrition treatment program by age and gender; number of Cured, defaulter, deaths, transfers, non-response in each treatment site, by age and gender, and ensure accurate and timely submission of reports as required by donors or the Nutrition Cluster

 Provide analysis on Therapeutic Supplementary Feeding Programme performance, including availability of public services, commitment of supported cases, acceptability of the Multiple Micronutrient Supplements commodities; comments on the achieved results; and how the overall situation is expected to develop. 


 Conduct Growth Monitoring services for children under two years based on the need.

 Support the nutrition community mobilizers in recording all the necessary information on the existing reporting’s tools (registration book and card for each beneficiary and etc...)


 In close coordination with the procurement department, ensure the proper reporting and inventory of nutrition commodities, including Multiple Micronutrient Supplements stocks, losses and distribution figures disaggregated.


 Collaborate with donors, e.g. UNICEF and partners in the reception and distribution of nutrition commodities and facilitate effective communication with donors and among partners for any operational challenges, losses or stock-outs.

 Monitor the distribution and consumption of nutrition supplies within Tdh and partners and ensure timely and

accurate reporting according to prescribed donor requirements and the distribution plan.


 Ensure availability of required nutrition materials and reporting templates and other related document are

prepared.

 Conduct health service mapping and ensure that referrals to health services, especially vaccination for children under 5, are being embedded within nutrition awareness activities.


 In close coordination with the head of programs and the regional health program coordinator, contribute to the health assessment planned by Tdh during 2025.

 Excellent interpersonal qualities: integrity, a capacity to judge, diplomacy



Required conditions:


Training/Qualifications: Health Degree, e.g. Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery or Nutrition

Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in health and nutrition program implementation, preferably in humanitarian or development settings, is essential. Relevant experience in maternal and child health program management is an advantage.

Languages: Proficient in English (both written and oral)


IT know-how: Microsoft office, e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook
