Terre des hommes - Lausanne is seeking four qualified MHPSS Facilitators based in Tyre for or surroundings for one of its projects in the far South.
Job Purpose / Main Functions:
The MHPSS Facilitator will be responsible for delivering group activities for children and caregivers focusing on prevention, resilience, and protection interventions. S/he will work closely with at-risk children and youth to strengthen their life skills, personal resilience, and provide essential psychosocial support.
The MHPSS Facilitator will utilize their knowledge and practical skills to carry out focused psychosocial support (PSS) activities with children at high risk of vulnerability in South Lebanon, ensuring alignment with both individual organizational and interagency guidelines. The primary aim of this role is to enhance the resilience of the most vulnerable children and youth through well-structured psychosocial support activities.
These activities will be designed and implemented to have a meaningful and positive impact on children and youth, promoting their well-being and helping them develop the coping mechanisms necessary to navigate difficult circumstances. The MHPSS Facilitator’s work will play a crucial role in fostering long-term resilience and well-being for the children and youth involved.
Aims of position are to:
• Develop and implement age-appropriate psychosocial activities for children and youth.
• Strengthening and imporving the resilience and wellbeing of children at risk.
• Ensure that all beneficiaries participate in the activities that are non-discriminatory as well as age and gender sensitive and appropriate.
• Ensure that parents and caregivers receive frequent feedback about their child’s participation during the sessions.
• Work directly with CP team members in order to develop intervention, plans and follow up.
• Ensure that the children/youth feel safe, comfortable and respected all the time,
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Planning and Implementation of Activities :
• Vulnerability Assessments & Selection: Conduct vulnerability assessments to identify at-risk children and youth for entry point activities, ensuring the selection of children and youth who require psychosocial support interventions.
• Activity Facilitation: Facilitate and co-facilitate MHPSS group sessions, ensuring the active participation of children and youth in activities designed to promote resilience, well-being, and protection.
• Support & Engagement: Support at-risk children and youth to engage in MHPSS activities, ensuring their emotional and psychological needs are addressed.
• Collaboration with Other Project Components: Participate in joint activities with other project components, such as case management and, to support holistic child protection efforts.
• Monitoring & Reporting: Develop monthly reports documenting progress in Layer2 PSS activities, highlighting success stories, challenges, and lessons learned. Provide regular feedback to the line manager on the implementation and outcomes of activities.
• Activity Implementation & Planning: Support the senior FPSS facilitator to ensure activities are implemented according to the Plan of Action and within the project budget. Ensure activities adhere to child safeguarding policies.
• Community Engagement & Capacity Building: Collaborate with the team to engage the community and foster a child protection environment. Establish and support community-based child protection committees and build the capacity of community members to identify and report child protection concerns.
• Outreach & Registration: Support the outreach teams in mapping and assessing children to attend focused PSS activities. Register and enroll children in appropriate psychosocial support interventions.
• Session Planning & Implementation: Plan, organize, and run activities with children, adapting sessions based on feedback. Ensure activities are conducted in a safe and child-friendly environment.
• Behavior Management & Adaptation: Address challenging behaviors (e.g., conflict, aggression, introversion) by identifying underlying causes and employing effective communication strategies.
• Documentation & Feedback: Document necessary feedback, provide regular monitoring reports to the Senior FPSS facilitator, and ensure parents receive regular updates on their children’s progress.
• Advocacy & Awareness: Assist in the identification and packaging of PSS advocacy issues. Support advocacy campaigns such as the prevention of the Worst Forms of Child Labor.
• Logistics & Material Preparation: Support logistics for MHPSS activities, ensuring the timely preparation and safe storage of materials. Plan and identify resources required for interventions on a weekly basis.
• Referral & Specialized Support: Ensure children requiring specific medical, psychological, or nutritional care are referred to appropriate services.
• Capacity Building & Training: Contribute to the development of new PSS methodologies, M&E tools, and assist in training and shadowing co-facilitators.
• Child Protection & Safeguarding: Ensure children under your responsibility are not exposed to harm during activities. Promote and ensure children’s participation in all activities while safeguarding their rights and well-being.
Reporting:
• Regularly provide field reports, protection monitoring reports and reports related to project progress to your line manager.
• Assist in analysing the data collected and reports both quantitatively and qualitatively.
• Provide information about progress when required.
• Report and support the constant evaluation process about the impact of activities on children/youth.
• Ensure a daily proper recording of data (# of children, youth, adults participating, activities delivered, etc).
• Provide official and on time report for any security and safety incident.
Communication and Coordination:
• Keep close coordination and update with the case workers and the lawyers .
• Contribute to create a positive atmosphere interacting constructively with colleagues and children/youth and caregivers
• Communicate efficiently with technical team and managers conveying to them ideas and new proposals according to daily observation in dealing with children.
• Participate with in donor visits and promote proper preparation and implementation.
• Communicate with the stakeholders, partners and municipalities through regular visits.
Organisational Policies:
• Respects the Tdh Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP) and its principles of child protection, ensuring it’s the policy’s implementation and prompt notification of the CSP Focal Point with any information regarding potential breachs of the policy;
• Is aware of, abides by and promotes the practices and values set out in all other Tdh policies and procedures such as the Internal Regualtions, Standard Operating Procedures and other policies.
• Undertake all other duties that may be requested by the line-manager and that are compatible with the job.
• Participate actively in weekly and monthly coordination meeting with the line managers.
• Ensure Do No Harm analysis are carried out and the principle of Do No Harm is observed and upheld in all the engagements of the FPSS Facilitator.
Other:
• Support the other teams and his/her line manager
• Undertake all other duties that may be requested by the line-manager and that are compatible with the job.
• The MHPSS Facilitator is expected to be present and available in case of emergencies, ensuring the continuity of psychosocial support services for children and families in need. Given the emergency context, flexibility in working hours and location of implementation is required, as these may be adjusted based on the evolving situation and operational needs.
Job Requirements:
• Academic Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Sociology.
• Experience:
At least 2 years of experience working with children and caregivers and preferably high risk children and/or refugees/ vulnerable populations.
